BEFORE YOUR REGISTER
Looking to get out of the house and into a great community?... Then this is the place for you! Leagues run weekly with playoffs at the end of the season. There are leagues for all skill levels; so sign up and let’s go
Skill Levels
When registering for a league, choose a colour to best represent your skill level.
Green = Beginner friendly
Red = Medium Experience
Black = Skilled
During quieter seasons, Green and Red leagues may get amalgamated.
How It All Works
We have up to 30 people throwing on each axe-throwing league for 5 weeks!
During the 5 weeks, 4 of those will be regulation play (where you will be throwing about 4 matches per league night). The last week is playoff night where the 16 top-scoring throwers square off in a double-elimination tournament, in which the season winner will leave victorious under a blanket of cheers from his/her fellow hatchet wielders.
Costs
The cost for an Adult axe-throwing season is $90 + HST.
The cost for a Youth axe-throwing season is $75 + HST.
While you don’t have to bring your own axe to the league (or events), axes can be purchased at the counter. You can bring your own axe but it must have a wooden handle and be between 1.25-1.75 lbs.

Additional Notes
for Youth Leagues
All youth playing must have waivers signed by a parent or legal guardian.
It is up to the parent or legal guardian to organize drop-off and pick-up at appropriate times according to the operating hours of the Peterborough Axe Club. In short, we’re not responsible for your child hanging out in the cold with the wolves and bears!
Close-toed shoes must be worn to play.
Age / Ability
The Peterborough Axe Club Youth Leagues are for youth 9-17 years of age. HOWEVER, we do need to make sure that youth are strong enough to throw a 1.5 lb hatchet safely. Therefore, some youths may not be permitted to join if the League Host feels that it is not safe for the youth to do so. Please come in and throw some axes before registering to make sure your youth is capable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions? You’re not the only one.
Here are straightforward answers to the things people usually want to know before booking or showing up. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out.
The cost of leagues will all depend on which kind of league you’re joining and the length of the season, but don’t worry, all pricing information for leagues can be found on League pages of our website.
Included with all leagues are use of house equipment, coaching for first-timers and an explanation of house rules and practices.
While you don’t need to provide your own equipment, like a chef who hates using someone else’s spoon, you’ll probably consider getting your own axes as you get into the sport. In the meantime, feel free to use ours! If you do decide to purchase an axe to call your own, all the hatchets we sell are of regulation weight and length. For more information on throwing standards, you can visit the International Axe Throwing Federation website for details.
All axe throwing leagues are played as singles, unless we specify that it’s a “Doubles League”. Then, at that point…well…it’s doubles! But although you’ll most likely be playing as a single, no need to feel alone! Join with friends who you’ll be throwing against in competition at some point in the season. Either way, you’ll soon be meeting all the other league members and become part of the ‘one big family’ that makes up the axe throwing world!
Each week you will play only on the night you signed up for. Doors open at 5:30pm and we ask that league members arrive by 6:00pm so we can take attendance. Games start at 6:30pm and usually go to around 9:00-9:30pm.
Not for leagues.
Absolutely! New league members get coaching from our League Hosts! We won’t just hand you an axe and wish you luck (unless you really want that experience). Whether you’re a total beginner or just looking to sharpen your skills (pun fully intended), we’ve got you covered!
Yep! League members get to miss up to two weeks if they need to. If you know you will be absent for a week in the future, we can pull the games from that week forward. If you end up missing a week because you had to take your hamster to the vet, we can push those games to a future week. All other missed weeks will need to have the games forfeited for the sake of keeping the leagues rolling.
If you’ve missed the first week and decide not to continue we’d be happy to refund your league fees; unfortunately, anything after that we will be putting toward our Staff Pizza Fund!
